Kidney beans, also called ‘rajma’ in Hindi, find their place of pride in many cuisines. In Indian homes too, this health food is a favourite. Ayurveda too recognises the various health benefits of kidney beans which, as we all know come in beautiful colours of pink, reddish brown and white. We can reap the health benefits of kidney beans in many ways…as a rich curry, stew or just plain boiled in a salad. But please make sure it has been well soaked and boiled as the outer skin of these beans cause severe stomach issues.

Kidney beans help prevent cancer. You know why? It’s because they have lots of antioxidants and folate that help in controlling cell growth. Moreover, the fiber in them is very good to fight against some types of digestive cancer.

Among the lesser known kidney beans nutrition facts is that they have loads of calcium and magnesium. So, this food is very good for those of with weak bones and osteoporosis. Also, the folate in the beans keep our joints just the way they should be…joined!!

The vitamin B, minerals, and required dietary fiber in kidney beans cleanse your kidneys. Moreover, this food also has very little sodium. So, kidney beans improve the functioning of the urinary tract and can even help treat those painful kidney stones.

If you are suffering from constipation, eating kidney beans is a good idea.The fiber needs a long time to get digested, and so we tend to keep drinking water which in turn eases our bowel movement. The high amount of iron improves metabolism and boosts energy.

5. Kidney Beans Help Manage Diabetes.

Diabetes management is also among the health benefits of kidney beans. These beans are low on the glycemic index. Moreover, they have just the right mix of high quality carbs, lean protein, and soluble fiber. All these keep our blood sugar levels within limits. The extract of white kidney beans makes the blood sugar drop and prevents weight gain….two very important factors a diabetic should be careful about.

Many of us tend to get forgetful and blame it on poor memory. But do you know there could be a neurological problem just about to happen? Please know that the thiamine found in kidney beans is related to a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is very vital for a good memory and our cognitive health.
