Whooping cough, also known as pertussis and kaali khaasi in Hindi, is an infectious disease commonly found amongst kids. It dangerously affects the respiratory system of children between the ages of 5 to 15. Whooping cough symptoms include dehydration, vomiting as well as difficulty in breathing. In India, out of every one lakh children, 578 are victims of this infection – irrespective of the season. However, whooping cough in adults is also a common scenario. So, whooping cough treatment is absolutely important.

What Is Whooping Cough?

It’s a communicable disease caused by the Bordetella pertussis bacteria that spreads by coming in direct contact with the infected person. And, the condition is one of the leading causes of infant deaths around the globe.

What Are The Whooping Cough Causes?

  • Unhygienic conditions
  • Bacterial infection (the Bordetella pertussis virus in particular)
  • Contaminated food or fluids
  • Weak immunity

What Are The Whooping Cough Symptoms?

Doctors classify the whooping cough symptoms into three categories:

1. Catarrhal

This stage begins right after the incubation period of the bacteria lasting for about ten days. The symptoms may include mild fever, occasional cough as well as an inflamed mucus membrane.

2. Paroxysmal

In this stage, coughing gets intense as well as rapid. This period may last for about two to six weeks and you may experience vomiting as well as exhaustion. Multiple coughing bouts and whooping sound upon sneezing are a few more signs.

3. Convalescent

Considering it to be the final stage, you may observe gradual recovery. Cough attacks start to disappear and within two to three weeks, you are totally fine (if the treatment is consistent).

Whooping Cough Treatment

1. Malabar Nuts Are Beneficial.

Heat the leaves of Adusa or Malabar nuts and crush them into ashes. Take a tsp each day with some honey.

2. Coconut Oil Is Good For Kids.

Heat about 3 ml of coconut oil and give this to your child every day. It will help reduce the intensity of cough as well as soothe the respiratory tract. You can also give them about 250 grams of coconut fiber ashes mixed with some honey or water.

3. Ginger Cures The Condition.

Since ginger is anti-inflammary in nature, it’ll help reduce the symptoms of whooping cough. So, grind a ginger root to extract its juice and have it with a tsp honey twice a day.

4. Almonds Reduce The Whooping Cough Symptoms.

Peel the skin of overnight soaked almonds and make a paste with some garlic as well as rock sugar (misri). This reverses the signs of a whooping cough in adults as well as kids.

5. Basil Is A Wonderful Home Remedy.

You simply need to coat a few basil leaves with some honey and have them to clear your cough.

6. Turmeric Boosts Your Immunty.

Heat some turmeric powder in a pan and take 3 grams of it with water every day. This helps boost your immunity to fight against bacterial infection.

7. Everyday Massages Are Helpful.

Massage your chest with some camphor oil before bedtime. This relieves the condition.

8. Vaccinations Are Important.

It is always beneficial to stay up-to-date with the basic vaccinations available for kids as well as adults.
