It’s no news that a decline in collagen levels degenerates the skin cells. This decline happens naturally as we age. So, it’s important to rebuild our collagen levels with the right kind of food – which we will talk to you about in this post. But first, we’ll answer some basic questions like: What is collagen? What are the collagen benefits? Most importantly, what are the collagen boosting foods?

Collagen is a structural protein that helps your skin retain its elasticity and texture. It also keeps your muscles, tendons, and bones healthy. However, lowering collagen levels commonly occur as we age. This lead to sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. But, several collagen boosting foods ensure that the levels are maintained…

Collagen Boosting Foods

1. Dark Green Veggies

Dark leafy greens are the most nutrient-dense foods that can help you prevent most body ailments. These collagen boosting foods or leafy greens include kale, green beans, broccoli, bok choy, arugula, spinach, asparagus, green algae, and collards. These keep your skin hydrated and also combat the signs of aging.

2. Carrot

One of the excellent collagen boosting foods, carrots help maintain your skin’s elasticity, regulate blood circulation and also restore cellular health.

3. Cabbage

Include cabbage in your daily diet as it’s one of the best collagen boosting foods. It also promotes elasticity in your skin keeping it moisturized. Being a rich source of fiber, folate, vitamin-B6, iron, and magnesium, cabbage provides you with all the goodness that’s required for the betterment of your skin.

4. Soy Products

A fulfilling diet is the one that includes soy products to help you fight against skin-related damage. These are magic foods for boosting the collagen levels and to restrict the development of free radicals.

5. Beans

This wonder food nourishes your skin cells to protect the skin tone, reduce fine lines and increase the synthesis of collagen.

6. Garlic

The benefits of garlic are worth noting. This Ayurvedic herb leaves your skin looking much younger, prevents the breakdown of collagen, and maintains its levels.

7. Berries

Strawberries, blueberries and other such fruits contain a nutrient – ellagic acid, which helps prevent UV damage that leads to collagen breakdown. Even blackberries and raspberries promote the formation of collagen.

8. Citrus Fruits

The vitamin C in citrus fruits helps develop a link amongst the amino acids that are required to form collagen. Vitamin C protects you against toxin damage. So, load up your smoothies or salads with fruits like orange, lemon or grapefruits. They help regenerate your skin and repair the loss.

9. Tomatoes

The lycopene present in tomatoes help protect your skin cells and also prevents collagen damage. Since they are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, adding a bit more tomatoes to your daily diet will boost the health of your skin.

10. Avocado

This powerful antioxidant-rich fruit provides you with sufficient vitamin E and promotes healthy-looking skin along with increasing the levels of collagen. Even avocado oil can help increase the soluble collagen amounts.
