Influenza is a communicable disease that affects the respiratory system and is also known as flu. Your nose, throat, and lungs are the worst affected by the influenza virus. There is a lack of awareness about what is influenza. Hence, people usually mistake it for a common cold. This is why we are here to tell you about the influenza symptoms as well as the influenza treatment, ingredients of which are easily found in the comfort of your home.

What Is Influenza Virus?

So, what is influenza? Basically, the influenza virus is of three subtypes – influenza virus A, B as well as C. It is an RNA virus, being a part of the Orthomyxoviridae family. All three kinds of the influenza virus can replicate only in a host cell. They spread in millions when an infected person sneezes and multiplies by coming in direct contact.

How Long Does Influenza Last?

Usually, the influenza symptoms are visible within one to four days of infection. The virus enters the host cell as well as replicates its viral proteins and RNA. Most of the symptoms start declining after the second day. Still, the overall bout of influenza lasts up to two weeks.

What Causes Influenza?

The influenza virus is an airborne disease. It may transmit through:

  • Direct or indirect contact
  • Inhaling contaminated air
  • Shaking hands with an infected person
  • Using infected things like phones or pens

What Are The Influenza Symptoms?

Most of the influenza symptoms are same as that of cold. Influenza symptoms shoot up in a day or two, whereas common colds take time. People suffering from influenza complain of:

  • A continuous back, arm or leg muscle pain
  • High fever
  • Continuous chills and sweating
  • Nasal congestion
  • Sore throat
  • Persistent cough

Effective Influenza Treatment

Vaccination against influenza does not guarantee immunity against the infection. Even antibiotics aren’t effective in influenza treatment as the virus adapts itself and develops immunity. Maintaining basic hygiene along with following home remedies can help in influenza treatment:

1. Lemon Juice Is Beneficial.

Squeeze fresh lemon juice into a glass of warm water. Drink this every day to get relief from influenza symptoms.

2. Ashwagandha Is A Magical Herb.

Ayurvedic ingredients like Ashwagandha and Kalmegh help in reducing the body temperature effectively.

3. Fenugreek Does Wonders.

Boil a tablespoon of fenugreek seeds in half a liter of water. Heat until only one-third of the water is left. Strain out the solution. Add a teaspoon of ginger juice and honey to the solution. Drink this once a day until the symptoms decline.

4. Ginger Is An Ancient Remedy.

It’s a natural remedy for various ailments since ancient times. Ginger tea along honey can help fight various symptoms of influenza.

5. Mustard Is Anti-Inflammatory.

Mustard is enriched with anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial properties. This can help provide relief from the symptoms of influenza.

6. Honey Is An Immunity Booster.

Honey is also an effective way to boost the immune system. It contains anti-bacterial as well as anti-microbial properties. This can help the body to fight the influenza virus. So, take a tablespoon of honey along with water. And, increase the dosage to several times in a day.

7. Steam Helps Flush Toxins.

Inhaling steam helps in thinning the mucus which further leads to flushing it out of the body. You can turn on a hot shower. Sit in the bathroom for a few minutes every day. This will help the body get rid of the influenza symptoms.
