Hawthorn berries are native to Europe, but they can be found across the world. They belong to the rose and apple family, and they have immense medicinal properties. Ancient healers have been using the hawthorn flowers, leaves, stem, bark as well as berries for preparing herbal medicines. They contain antioxidants named bioflavonoid and proanthocyanidins. The sufficient antioxidant amount in the hawthorn berry benefits the heart as well as the blood vessels. Long-term use is beneficial for the treatment of heart conditions.

Hawthorn Uses & Dosage

Hawthorn flowers, berries as well as leaves are used in making tinctures, tea, jam, jelly, and supplement powder. The dosage may differ from person to person. Therefore, consult your doctor before consumption.

Tea: Steep 1 to 2 teaspoons of hawthorn berries in a cup of water. Drink thrice daily.

Powder: Add one teaspoon of dried hawthorn berry powder in a glass of juice or water.

Tincture: Take 2-4 ml of hawthorn tincture 3 times every day.

Since it is rich in fiber, hawthorn plant tea is known to increase the bile juices that aid proper digestion. Fiber helps ease digestion and prevents associated discomforts.

Hawthorn flowers and berries are rich in Vitamin C as well as antioxidants to boost your immune system. These antioxidants kill harmful bacteria and protect the organs from oxidation.

The hawthorn plant is antibacterial in nature. These fight off the bacteria in your body and heal the infections. Therefore, regular consumption of the hawthorn berry benefits by protecting the body from several infections.

Hawthorn Side Effects

There are some really severe hawthorn side effects that bring about changes in the body. Pregnant as well as breastfeeding women must particularly not consume the hawthorn plant in any form. It may lead to:

  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Agitation
