The vagina is a delicate thing; it deserves better than chemical products like soap. Soap contains a whole bunch of artificial ingredients that are no good for your lady parts…in fact, they’re not even the best option to clean the rest of your body – but at least it can withstand it. The vagina cannot, and using such harsh products for prolonged periods puts you at risk of infections, irritation, and in severe cases even infertility. Ayurveda always encourages upgrading from commercial products to safer, natural options. That’s why we decided to put this list together and help you choose the right natural vaginal wash.

Before We Begin:

Please note that although they’re called vaginal washes, you must never put any such things inside your vagina but only use them to cleanse your external area.

Discover The Perfect Natural Vaginal Wash For You

1. Water

Believe it or not, most gynaecologists agree that lukewarm water is the safest vaginal wash because the vagina is self cleansing in nature. This means that it already has healthy bacteria that keep impurities and infections outside. And using water makes sure that you don’t disturb the balance, while maintaining good hygiene at the same time.

What to do:

Simply clean the area by running warm water along it when you shower and using your hands for additional scrubbing.

2. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil makes a pretty good natural vaginal wash. That’s because this pleasant smelling essential oil has powerful anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties, which can keep infections as well as foul odour away. Please note that by foul odour, we’re not referring to your natural smell.

What to do:

Dilute 2 drops of Tea tree essential oil with 7 ounces of water. Apply it it to the area with clean cotton and then rinse off with water.

3. Apple Cider Vinegar

Next up is apple cider vinegar. This ingredient has citric acid that keeps infections at bay. Like Tea tree oil, apple cider vinegar has powerful medicinal properties that enable it to tackle toxins. Importantly, ACV is great for restoring the pH level of your vagina.

What to do:

Add one drop of apple cider vinegar to 5 teaspoons of water. Stir it and then clean yourself. Rinse it off thoroughly with water.

4. Yoghurt

You might have heard that yoghurt is great for maintain healthy bacterial balance in the intestines. Well, it can do the same for the genitals. In fact, yoghurt is a classic home remedy for yeast infections, urinary tract infections as well as abnormal odour, since it is a probiotic. This means that it contains certain kinds of ‘good’ bacteria that are beneficial for the body. In fact, you can also simply eat yoghurt frequently to maintain better vaginal as well as gut health.

What to do:

You can directly apply yoghurt and rinse it off well with water after around 30 minutes. It’s best to make your yoghurt at home (even better, with good quality organic milk) to avoid putting unwanted additives to your delicate region, which can do more harm than good.

5. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a blessing for the skin. This wonder herb has moisturising, inflammation-reducing as well as soothing effects on your lady parts. If you suffer from pronounced dryness in your vagina, aloe Vera can supply it with much-needed hydration and lubrication. This herb can also reduce itchiness.

What do do:

Cut a piece of aloe and extract the gel into a clean cup. Then, fill the cup with water and mix it well. Your homemade vagina cleanser is ready to use!
