Dry skin can be quite difficult to deal with, especially during the winters. But it’s not something you need to put up with for the rest of your life! There are many things you can do to improve it. Ayurveda associates dry skin with the Vata dosha, which has qualities such as coolness, dryness, airiness, and roughness. In this article, we share a bunch of useful tips for soothing both the dry skin and the Vata dosha aggravation that causes it.

Ayurvedic Dry Skin Tips

1. Apply Aloe Vera Gel.

One of the top tips for dry skin is to keep aloe vera handy. This herb has a host of beauty benefits, including moisturising the skin. Aloe vera gel is not only hydrating, but it also fights inflammation and soothes irritation. It’s also great for burned skin. This makes aloe vera a precious herb for people with this skin type. Rub some pure aloe gel on your skin regularly.

2. Practise Abhyanga.

Most common among the Ayurvedic dry skin tips is to practise self-massage. Those with Vata skin highly benefit from this technique. With love for yourself, massage your body with oils such as coconut oil, sesame oil, almond oil, or avocado oil. This not only nourishes, detoxifies and moisturises the skin, but also makes it glow. Moreover, this practise busts stress and helps you sleep better too – both of which significantly improve skin quality.

3. Tweak Your Showering Method.

If you have dry skin, don’t spend too long in the shower – especially during cold and dry weather. Apart from that, use warm rather than hot water. Both of these will prevent you from losing skin moisture. You could also switch to more mild and chemical-free soaps. Soapless body cleansers are also a great alternative.

4. Moisturise Immediately After Showering.

This is an extremely important dry skin tip. Right after you finish showering, reach for your moisturiser. Moisturising immediately after you shower makes sure that your skin’s moisture stays trapped. Pat your skin dry and then rub generous amounts of moisturiser onto your skin.

5. Apply Banana And Honey.

This Ayurvedic dry skin pack works wonderfully for those with the Vata skin type. Together, banana and honey nourish, hydrate, and soothe the skin. They also reduce inflammation. Here’s what to do: mash the pulp of a ripe banana and add a tablespoon of raw honey to it. Mix well to form a paste and apply it onto your skin. After about 20 minutes, wash it off with lukewarm water.

6. Eat A Vata Pacifying Diet.

Vata dry skin tips don’t work fully in the long term unless you follow a Vata pacifying diet. That’s because all the food you eat influences the state of your skin. The key words here are: warm, lubricating, grounding, sweet (but not with processed sugar!), and well cooked. Limit the intake of raw and cold foods like salads. Liquid foods are great for you, like soups, stews, and milk. Use digestive spices like ginger, cardamom, and turmeric. Eat plenty of oily foods like nuts, avocados, ghee, and olive oil.
