Lymphedema is a condition where excess fluid builds up in the body to hinder the flow of lymph. In case you’re wondering, lymph is a protein-rich fluid that passes onto the lymph nodes. These nodes filter and rid the body of impurities. Lymphedema causes severe swelling – especially in your arms as well as legs – leading to difficulty in movement. The condition of pain as well as heaviness makes up for the common lymphedema symptoms. Neglecting the signs may worsen the situation and lead to ailments like cancer. Ayurveda, therefore, suggests certain remedies as an effective lymphedema treatment that’s completely natural and safe.

What Are The Lymphedema Causes?

  • Damage or blockage in the lymphatic system
  • Genetic abnormalities
  • Radiation
  • Surgery
  • Injuries
  • Chemotherapy
  • Parasitic infection

What Are The Lymphedema Symptoms?

  • Swelling in arms and legs, including fingers and toes
  • Pain
  • Heaviness
  • Limited motion

Lymphedema Treatment

1. Abhyanga Reduces Fluid Build Up.

Lymphedema causes an excess fluid build-up in certain parts of the body, which can be tackled with Abhyanga or deep lymphatic massage. Herbal oils help break the fluids into small particles. Therefore, take around two tablespoons of olive oil and add six drops of lemon, grapefruit, three drops of rosemary, and two drops of juniper essential oils. Massage the affected area with long strokes and observe the symptoms subside.

2. Phanta Relieves Lymphedema Symptoms.

Phanta is a hot infusion of herbs used for Vata as well as Kapha problems. Boil one cup of water and add a teaspoon of ginger powder in it. Remove from the heat and allow it cool. Filter the tea with a cloth and drink once daily. This will help reduce the excess inflammation.

3. Kalka Is A Herbal Lymphedema Treatment.

Kalka is an Ayurvedic term for herbal paste. And, you can use Butcher’s broom herb for preparing this paste. It helps get rid of the lymphedema symptoms like pain and swelling. So, wash the butcher’s broom herb and chop it into small pieces. Grind it into a paste and directly apply it twice daily over the affected areas for better results.

4. Ayurvedic Foot Soak Benefits Immensely.

Try foot soaking, since it helps dispel the fluids as well as enhances blood circulation. Thus, add lavender, sage, and rosemary in a small pouch. Immerse the pouch in a bucket of warm water. Soak your feet for about 30 minutes in this water and then, dry pat with a towel.

5. Cleavers Drain The Fluid Buildup.

Cleavers herb is popularly known as a lymphatic healer. It effectively helps flush out toxins from the system. So, add two teaspoons of cleaver leaves into a cup of boiling water. Steep the tea for about five minutes and drink twice or thrice daily. This will prevent the occurrence of lymphedema symptoms.
