“If you want to be happy for life, be a gardener and plant punarnava.”

Punarnava, popularly known as hogweed in the west, grows in India, the Pacific as well as in the United States. The punarnava herb has been an integral part of several Ayurvedic treatments. Its roots, stem, and leaves are medicinally used in powdered form or as they are. The punarnava benefits are immense, and are said to renew the body entirely. It’s beneficial in gastric, cardiovascular, reproductive, diuretic as well as dermatological problems. What else? Read further!

Punarnava Benefits

1. It Cures Kidney & Liver Diseases.

Having diuretic properties, the herb helps to remove excess urea from the body. Therefore, regular usage treats kidney stones, jaundice as well as hepatitis. So, drink 20-30 gms of its juice every day to cure the symptoms.

2. It Provides Relief From Skin Disorders.

All thanks to the antioxidant content, hogweed improves blood circulation and helps fight free radicals. It also kills any bacterial infections that may deteriorate the skin. Simply warm up some punarnava plant roots in 2-3 tbsp coconut oil and gently massage it onto your skin. This will help retain its moisture and treat disorders like eczema or dermatitis.

3. It Reduces Cough, Cold & Fever.

According to Ayurveda, cold, cough and fever occur due to an imbalance among the three doshas – vata, pitta and kapha. However, the hogweed plant helps balances the three. Take some punarnava powder with one glass of warm milk every day to wear off the illnesses.

4. It Invigorates The Digestive System.

Since hogweed is a carminative, it helps increase your appetite and also treat constipation. Not just that – the punarnava plant is also an analgesic that relieves the abdominal pain. You simply need to take 5 gms punarnava powder three times a day to alleviate the related discomforts.

5. Treats Inflammation.

The anti-inflammatory properties of punarnava offer relief from all kinds of inflammation in the body. You can also get rid of arthritis pain, UTIs as well as low bone density.

6. Cures Breathing Disorders.

The hogweed roots are expectorant – which means they help loosen up mucus from the air passages. You can opt for a soothing steam to heal the condition. Add some punarnava roots in boiling water and simply inhale the steam twice daily for better results.
