While most people practice yoga for its weight loss benefits, there are also many who need yoga for weight gain. Vata types are those who generally suffer from being underweight and its associated problems such as weakness and low bone density. Yoga is an excellent exercise for Vatas since it slows down the body, calms the mind, and increases prana. Let’s look at some of the best techniques in yoga to increase weight.

Yoga To Increase Weight

1. Alternate Nostril Breathing (Nadi Shodhana)

A helpful yoga for weight gain breathing technique is Alternate Nostril Breathing. It brings balance in all areas, incuding hormones. This directly affects the manner in which the body absorbs food and processes energy. Alternate Nostril Breathing also reduces stress, a major cause of unwanted weight loss especially in Vatas.

2. Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskara)

A combination of yoga poses for weight gain, the Sun Salutations sequence warms up and energises the body. It’s an excellent work out to do in the morning. It boosts appetite, improves nutrient absorption, lowers stress levels, increases blood circulation, and helps keep the body active. Do several rounds a day, as per your capacity.

3. Warrior Pose 2 (Virabhadrasana 2)

Warrior Pose 2 is strengthening and uplifting for the body. Being a Root Chakra pose, it increases the earth element and supports muscle building. It’s very helpful for gaining weight in the lower body. It also opens up the chest and stretches the shoulders as well as arms. This pose is very good for those with low self esteem and excess Vata. Here are some more benefits of Warrior Pose 2.

4. Thunderbolt Pose (Vajrasana)

Among the best yoga poses for weight gain, Thunderbolt Pose is wonderful for digestion. It increases blood flow to the digestive system and improves the absorption of nutrients. It busts stress by calming the nervous system as well as grounding the body. Thunderbolt Pose also corrects improper posture by straightening the back.

5. Wind Relieving Pose (Pavanamuktasana)

Another yoga for weight gain pose that improves digestion, Wind Relieving Pose, as the name suggests, expels excess gas from the body. It lowers hyper activeness in the digestive system and helps your body receive nourishment from the food you eat at a slower rate. Being a gas reducer, it pacifies Vata dosha.

6. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

Cobra Pose is helpful too. It’s one of the yoga poses for weight gain that improve appetite and stimulate the digestive fire. It boosts blood circulation and aids nutrient absorption. Moreover, Cobra Pose releases stress from the chest, shoulders, and back, thus promoting a calmer mind and peaceful sleep. As stress levels reduce, the body will start to store more energy.

7. Corpse Pose (Savasana)

Last on our list of yoga to increase weight poses is Corpse Pose. Being deeply relaxing, it allows your body to heal itself from the stress that triggers weight loss in many people. It slows down metabolism and thus helps add a few extra kilos. It’s excellent for sleeping well and reduces excess Vata.
