Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a condition where the lungs are not able to move air in as well as out of the blood. Lack of oxygen, therefore, leads to breathlessness along with organ failure. The condition is also known as respiratory failure. However, ARDS treatment is possible and it may include oxygen therapy as well as surgeries. The disease can be deadly if not treated on time. Thus, home remedies can be beneficial in curing the initial symptoms of such respiratory distress.

What Are ARDS Causes?

  • Sepsis
  • Pneumonia
  • Severe bleeding in the body
  • Chest or head injuries
  • Breathing harmful air or smoke
  • Respiratory Failure

What Are The ARDS Symptoms?

  • Severe shortness of breath
  • Unusual rapid breathing
  • Confusion and fatigue
  • Low oxygen levels in the blood
  • Low blood pressure
  • Chest pain
  • Fever

Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome – ARDS Treatment

The following ARDS treatment can be useful in protecting your lungs. However, these home remedies may not be a substitute for professional medical care.

1. Ease Respiratory Distress With Eucalyptus Steam Inhalation.

Since eucalyptus contains cineole to relieve respiratory congestion, it can easily help soothe the irritation that may lead to acute respiratory failure. So, add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil in the steaming water. And, inhale the steam for about 5 minutes twice daily.

2. Turmeric Helps Clear The Bronchial Passage.

As turmeric is an expectorant along with being an anti-inflammatory spice, it can heal respiratory inflammation. Therefore, mix a teaspoon of turmeric powder in one glass of warm water and drink regularly.

3. Lungwort Is An Effective ARDS Treatment.

Since the flower is potent enough to strengthen as well as detoxify your lungs, you can use it daily. Add the lungwort leaves to one cup boiling water. Let it simmer for about 10 minutes. Strain and consume thrice daily. Also, drink enough water between each time you drink lungwort tea.

4. Peppermint Mouthwash Can Prevent A Respiratory Failure.

Since peppermint contains menthol, it not only has a cooling effect, but also acts as a natural decongestant. So, add a few drops of peppermint essential oil in one cup of water. Use it as a mouthwash after every meal and gargle once regularly.

5. Oregano Is Not Only For Pizza.

The oil extracted from the oregano plant has antihistamine as well as decongestant properties. So you can mix a few drops of the cayenne pepper and oregano oil in olive oil to massage your chest daily for better results.

6. Elecampane Tea Can Soothe The Lung Muscles.

Elecampane roots help relax the tracheal muscles and aid better breathing. Since it is known to be an effective expectorant, you can drink the elecampane dried root powder tea twice daily for easing the symptoms of acute respiratory distress syndrome.

7. Chaparral Is Good For Lung Detoxification.

Since the herb is enriched with antioxidants, it is a proven antihistamine. Therefore, you can daily have a cup of chaparral leaves tea to soothe the initial symptoms of an acute respiratory failure
