When you excessively expose your skin to direct sunlight, it aggravates the Pitta inside your skin and spoils your complexion along with its texture. Eventually, it also leads to Vata imbalance which makes the skin dull and dehydrated. But, Ayurvedic herbs and remedies can effectively treat the condition. Home remedies for sunburn cool and soothe your skin to fix the damage. This is how to treat sunburn…

Home Remedies For Sunburn

1. Baking Soda Is a Natural Treatment For Sunburn

As baking soda is alkaline in nature, it soothes your skin to relieve the itching and burning sensation. Mix about 4 tbsp baking soda in some water to make a paste and apply it on the affected area twice daily. Leave it on for about 10 minutes. This will provide immense relief.

2. Eat Ghee For Sunburns

Healing yourself from within is as important as healing from the outside. Therefore, to pacify Pitta, you must include ghee (clarified butter) in your daily diet as it keeps you cool. You can also apply it to the skin to maintain its elasticity and suppleness.

3. Use Apple Cider Vinegar To Treat Sunburn

Apple Cider Vinegar can help restore your skin’s pH balance and accelerate the process of healing. Fill a spray bottle with some apple cider vinegar. You can also add some water to it if your condition is severe. Once you apply the solution to your skin, let it dry, and finish off by applying some coconut oil.

4. How To Get Rid Of Sunburn? Apply Aloe Vera!

This is among the most soothing wound healing home remedies for sunburn. Apply some fresh aloe gel to the affected skin and make sure it’s refrigerated beforehand. Apply as often as required and you’ll see the redness decreasing. Chilled aloe vera also reduces the pain and burning.

5. Prevention Beforehand For Sunburn Is A Must

Cover Up – Make sure you wear protective clothing with a loose and breathable fabric.

Diet Is important – You must increase your intake of all the vital nutrients, to prevent skin degeneration. And drinking enough water will counter the effects of skin dryness.

Don’t Repeat Mistakes – Under a severe condition, the recovery can take anywhere between 3 to 6 months. The top layer of your skin peels off and if you aren’t careful in the future, the painful effects of sunburn can easily return.

Apply Sunscreen – At least 30 minutes before leaving home, apply a coat of organic sunscreen lotion and allow it some time to penetrate into your skin, so the UV rays do not harm your skin.

Extra Care – Avoid going out in the Sun between 10 am to 3 pm, when the Sun is at its harshest.
