Runny nose and sneezing are common symptoms of a cold. But if you’re a victim of constant sneezing, it could be a sign of an allergy. Sneezing is a way of the body to push out bacteria or irritants. An allergic reaction causes excessive sneezing, watery eyes, and congestion to flush out elements like dust and pollen. However, there are other elements too in the environment that induce sneezing fits. But, these home remedies for sneezing can help avoid the triggers.

What Causes Runny Nose And Sneezing?

According to Ayurveda, an increase in Kapha leads to issues of the respiratory system. The aggravated Kapha disturbs the flow of Vata (air) to cause a runny nose and sneezing fits. Other factors may include:

  • Cold
  • Dust
  • Pollen
  • Mold
  • Allergies
  • Perfumes
  • Spicy food

Home Remedies

1. Prevent Excessive Sneezing With Cardamom.

Runny nose and sneezing are curable with black cardamoms. The spice controls the flow of mucous and inhibits sneezing fits. Grind one or two black cardamoms with a pestle. Mix the cardamom powder in half a teaspoon of ghee and have it twice daily.

2. Take Ginger To Stop Constant Sneezing.

Gingerols in ginger are antibacterial in nature. These prevent excessive sneezing and any related allergies. So, take an inch long ginger and grate it. Squeeze the grated ginger to extract its juice. Mix half a teaspoon of it with honey and have it at night to relieve runny nose and sneezing allergy.

3. Tulsi Heals Sneezing Allergy.

Tulsi or the Indian basil contains antimicrobial properties. It kills allergens that lead to constant sneezing. So, boil a cup of water and add 3-4 tulsi leaves. Steep the decoction for 5 minutes, strain and drink two cups daily.

4. Amla Combats Sneezing Fits.

Indian gooseberry or amla is a citrus fruit rich in antioxidants. Amla is amongst the best Ayurvedic home remedies for sneezing. Therefore, eat one raw amla daily or have it in the powdered form with some water.

5. Eucalyptus Oil Is A Perfect Remedy.

The essential oil acts as a decongestant. Add three drops of the eucalyptus oil in a bowl of steaming water. Inhale the steam to clear respiratory passages and stop sneezing allergy.

6. Fenugreek Seeds Are Effective.

Roast 5 tablespoons of fenugreek seeds and store them in a container. Add a teaspoon of the seeds in one cup of hot water. Let it steep for a few minutes and then strain. Mix honey for taste. Drink twice daily. Fenugreek seeds can also help with sinusitis allergies.

7. Relax Sneezing Fits With Fennel Seeds.

Fennel seeds show anti-histaminic activities. So, brew a decoction by boiling a teaspoon of fennel seeds in a cup of water. Steep the it for about 5-7 minutes and then strain. Drink daily for sneezing allergy relief.
