Spirulina is a freshwater plant that grows in some of the most exotic locations around the globe. Essentially, it is a bacteria a.k.a. cyanobacterium which is edible for humans as well as animals. Consisting of an array of nutrients, spirulina benefits your health in a number of ways. However, this ideal superfood also has a dark side that you must be aware of – yes, we are talking about the spirulina side effects. Therefore, here’s all that you need to know!

Spirulina Benefits

1. Spirulina Benefits The Weight Loss Process.

Majority of people use spirulina for its weight loss properties. It’s an all-natural as well as a fiber-rich superfood that helps shed those extra pounds and makes you feel fit!

2. It Prevents Cancer.

According to several studies, spirulina has shown positive results in reducing the size of tumors as well as preventing cancer cell development. Just a gram of spirulina powder every day can help eliminate the signs and symptoms of cancer.

3. It Lowers Your Blood Pressure.

Phycocyanin, a pigment found in spirulina maintains healthy blood pressure levels. Simply consume around 4 grams of spirulina powder with water every day to see the difference.

4. Spirulina Cures Allergic Rhinitis.

Spirulina is enriched with antioxidants as well as anti-inflammatory properties. This makes it highly effective to cure the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. It reduces the inflammation also. Take about 2 grams of spirulina powder every day to alleviate your discomforts.

5. It Also Treats Anemia.

Spirulina benefits you by increasing your red blood cells as well as hemoglobin levels – both of which are required for the treatment of anemia.

Spirulina Side Effects

1. It Leads To Autoimmune Disorders.

The spirulina side effects include autoimmune reactions. This can eventually lead to the development of related symptoms or increase their severity.

2. Spirulina Causes Heavy Metal Toxicity.

Excessive consumption of spirulina can induce metal poisoning as certain varieties contain a high amount of mercury, cadmium as well as lead.

3. Renal Disorders May Rise Up.

When your body starts to metabolize the proteins present in spirulina, it produces an excessive amount of ammonia which gets converted into urea. This is one of the most basic spirulina side eftfects. It consequently puts the kidney function under severe pressure, causing renal disorders.

4. Nausea & Indigestion Are Common.

These blue-green algae can at times produce toxins that lead to common gastric problems along with chronic dehydration. It may also cause abdominal cramps as well as nausea.

5. Avoid Spirulina During Pregnancy.

Since spirulina is high in vitamins as well as minerals, each element can leave a different impact on your health. Therefore, pregnant women are advised not to consume the same in larger amounts.
