  • 4. Camel Pose (Ustrasana)
  • 5. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)
  • 6. Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

Most of us can benefit immensely from chest opening yoga poses, given the fact that emotional pain is an inevitable part of life. But heart opening yoga doen’t just heal and balance the Heart Chakra. On the physical level, they are excellent for the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. These poses straighten the back and improve posture – they are therefore very good for those who spend long hours at the work desk. Here are the 6 best chest opening yoga poses.

Heart Opening Yoga Poses

1. Warrior Pose 2 (Veerabhadrasana 2)

An excellent chest opener, Warrior Pose 2 is all about strength and openness. It expands the rib cage, opens up the heart, boosts self confidence, and invokes feelings of courage as well as determination. It’s also very good for the shoulders, back, and lower body.

2. Triangle Pose (Trikonasana)

Among the best heart opening yoga poses, Triangle Pose is easy for beginners. It improves breathing capacity and boosts overall lung health. Triangle Pose also exercises the side-waist muscles, arms, shoulders, and neck. It’s a good pose also for lower back pain and tight hamstrings.

3. Lord Of The Dance Pose (Natrajasana)

This asana is named after Lord Shiva. Include Lord Of The Dance Pose in your heart opening yoga sequence. It brings balance in the body as well as mind, and helps develop emotional stability. Though not so easy to do for a beginner, it’s a highly rewarding pose with benefits for the chest, shoulders, abdomen, and thighs.

4. Camel Pose (Ustrasana)

Camel Pose is a wonderful back bend as well as chest opener. It stretches the entire front torso and boosts blood circulation. It improves posture and reduces stress levels. Camel Pose is energising and refreshing for the entire body and mind. Worth learning and practising!

5. Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

Next up is Cobra Pose, an easy chest opening yoga pose for beginners with immense benefit. Cobra Pose boosts emotional agility as well as self confidence. It stretches the chest, shoulders, back, and abdomen. In addition to opening the heart, it also tones the belly, reduces stress, and eliminates fatigue.

6. Fish Pose (Matsyasana)

Fish Pose is also a good chest opener, practised widely for balancing one’s emotional state. It’s excellent for anxiety, insomnia, depression, and PMS. Like all other heart opening yoga poses, Fish Pose also improves oxygen intake and boosts respiratory health.
