Similar to our height and weight, the blood pressure and cholesterol levels too are individual characteristics of the human body. And with the increased risk of heart diseases, one should be very cautious about their lifestyle as well as dietary habits. Both blood pressure and cholesterol affect not only the elderly but even the younger generation. An increase, decrease or intoxication of the Meda Dhatu (fat tissue) which is one among the seven Dhatus causing cardiovascular problems. So, here are 7 fruits that lower blood pressure and cholesterol.

Fruits That Lower Blood Pressure & Cholesterol

1. Indian Gooseberry (Amla)

Indian Gooseberry or amla significantly reduces blood pressure and cholesterol levels by improving blood flow. It’s an excellent source of Vitamin C and other heart-healthy antioxidants to widen your blood vessels and form newer arteries. Amla is also a major source of fiber that cleanses the blood and reduces sodium level, acting as an anti-hypertensive agent.

2. Papaya

The rich fibrous and tropical fruit papaya contains significant amounts of potassium and Vitamin C to neutralize the negative effects of sodium. This helps scrap off cholesterol build up in the arteries and prevent heart attacks. It also gets your blood pressure to the normal range. Therefore, eating around 250 grams of Papaya every morning for a period of three months (minimum) is said to regulate blood pressure levels.

3. Grapes

Grapes are a wonder fruit that lowers blood pressure. Both red, as well as black grapes, have a direct impact on the cardiovascular system. Being rich in antioxidants, grapes prevent heart diseases and the risk of cancer. They prevent blood clotting and even remove the blockage in arteries caused by cholesterol.

4. Bananas

The banana fruit will always make you feel full for a longer time. Being rich in potassium and low in sodium, banana reduces the risk of heart attacks. Moreover, it helps control stress levels and therefore reduces high blood pressure.

5. Avocado

Avocado helps effectively maintain your cholesterol as well as blood pressure levels. The presence of potassium, monounsaturated fats, and dietary fiber makes this fruit your best friend. It protects your cardiovascular system and proves to be an excellent substitute for mayonnaise on your sandwiches!

6. Citrus Fruits

Adding lemon peels and blood oranges to your diet help prevent the risk of heart diseases. Regular consumption also maintains the flexibility and smoothness of your arteries by scraping off cholesterol.

7. Apple

It is rightly said that an apple a day keeps the doctor away as the fiber content of apples help reduce your bad cholesterol levels. Apples are also among the best fruits that lower blood pressure. So, try including 2 apples in your everyday routine.
