Lettuce is the most well-known salad veggie. This delicious green comes in a whole range of colours, textures, and sizes. The Egyptians grew lettuce thousands of years ago and even considered it sacred. Since then its fame spread worldwide. Today, we share with you the top lettuce benefits.

In Ayurveda, raw lettuce is considered a rough, cooling, and light food. It’s therefore best for Kapha and can also be enjoyed by Pitta types. Vatas should eat it in moderation.

Lettuce Benefits

1. Lettuce Flushes Out Toxins.

One of the lesser-known lettuce benefits is that it flushes out toxins from the body. That’s because of its diuretic nature, meaning that it stimulates urination, through which harmful impurities are flushed out and the body detoxified. Enjoy lettuce vegetable salads or smoothies for detoxification.

2. Lettuce Helps In Digestion.

We know that salads are very important for the stomach. Lettuce helps in proper digestion of food and aids proper bowel movement. Support a healthy stomach with a healthy lettuce salad. Here are some more tips for better digestion.

3. It’s Good For Your Skin.

We all know our skin reflects what we eat. Lettuce has a fantastic combination of Vitamin C and Omega 3 fatty acids that can work wonders for the skin. They increase collagen and protect cell membranes from excess moisture loss. Lettuce also shields the skin from bacterial infections and can treat skin conditions like acne.

4. It Helps Manage Weight.

If managing weight is your problem, then lettuce is the perfect food. A cup of freshly shredded lettuce has just around 12 calories. This veggie has zero fat while being a source of nutrients like vitamins C and K, phosphorous, and calcium.

5. It Boosts Calmness.

Yes, a lettuce vegetable salad can promote a calm mind! Lettuce leaves have anxiolytic properties. They contain certain compounds that can help fight depression and reduce anxiety. Instead of your regular energy or caffeinated drink, enjoy lettuce juice and keep your nerves in good shape.

6. It Helps You Sleep Well.

When you cut lettuce leaves, notice a milky white fluid. This is lactucarium and it has sedative properties. Apply a paste made with crushed lettuce leaves on your forehead to get quick relief from headaches due to insomnia. Simply chewing them or drinking a refreshing glass of lettuce juice can also help you sleep better.

7. Lettuce Improves Female Health.

The lettuce vegetable benefits for pregnant women and lactating mothers is something many are unaware of. This nourishing veggie promotes hormonal balance. Being a source of folate and Vitamin K, it helps deliver a healthy baby. For more tips on female hormonal health, click here.
