Dangers Of Smoking: An Ayurvedic Perspective

In a nutshell, smoking affects your overall well-being. Not just your lungs, but your heart, kidneys, digestive system, skin, bones, hair, reproductive system, and eye health also deteriorate. Under certain circumstances, the damage is irreversible and there appears a doshic imbalance.

You suffer from excessive rajas and tamas i.e. mental disturbances and a sluggish attitude. You lose the body’s energy and immunity to fight against several health issues.

Tips To Quit Smoking

  • One of the first and best tips to quit smoking is to fix an achievable timeline. Stay true to your commitment and make efforts to strengthen the same.
  • Whenever the urge gets stronger, keep sugar free gums and candies at your reach.
  • Get enough sleep and go high on a healthy diet.
  • Have several small meals in a day rather than three major ones.
  • Exercise, practice yoga, go for long walks and indulge in the goodness of nature.
  • Take herbs and spices that promote relaxation and calm your nervous system like ashwagandha, Shatavari, and cinnamon.
  • Use Triphala for a total detox. It helps get rid of the tar that develops over the time due to smoking.
  • A vegetarian diet helps inculcate a satvik mindset. Alcohol, fatty foods, caffeine, and meat are a strict no-no!
  • Nicotine slows down the metabolic rate. Hence, include ghee, green veggies, and fresh fruits in your diet.

This flowering plant calms your anxious mind and promotes better sleeping. It acts like a herbal supplement that helps you quit smoking and leaves a relaxing impact on the mind and body. Valerian can be consumed in tablet form, or as a powder. And make sure that you take valerian under expert guidance.

4. Licorice

Being a demulcent and expectorant herb, licorice naturally helps you leave smoking. With consistent use, the herb kills your urge to smoke and relieves the related symptoms.
