Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a rather common condition. A major nerve running from your wrist up to the shoulder gets pressurized due to restricted movements of the hand. With time and without much care, the syndrome only aggravates the symptoms.

What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

The carpal canal or the carpal tunnel is a narrow corridor through which passes a median nerve. This nerve provides a working sensation to your index, middle and ring finger along with the thumb. This is essentially a signal for the fingers and thumb to move. However, certain activities or jobs require you to overuse or stress this nerve for prolonged periods. And then gradually, the discomforts become severe. The pressure thus created limits the free movement of the carpal tunnel.

Ayurvedic Perspective On The Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

A vitiated Vata dosha leads to the carpal tunnel syndrome. Numbness, swelling, pain and burning sensation are a sign of Vata imbalance. Therefore, a holistic approach needs to be applied while treating the condition. A vata pacifying diet and regime must be adopted. Plus, the therapies involved also concentrate on improving the blood circulation to this area along with reducing the inflammation to relax those muscles.

Carpal Tunnel Treatment – Ayurvedic Tips

1. Lifestyle Adjustment

Keep taking frequent breaks if you have a job that requires a strenuous application of your hands and wrist. Stretch, change positions and rest. Additionally, use alternatives that do not perplex your hand movements.

2. Yoga For Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Yoga postures for the carpal tunnel syndrome help relieve the stiffness of your joints as well as muscles. Try Gomukhasana, Garudasana or Namaskarasana to loosen your wrist nerves and ease the inflammation. Practicing pranayama also helps you stay calm and more mindful of your hands.

3. Dietary Recommendations

If you are dealing with obesity, try and focus on getting the weight under control. Follow a strict weight loss diet. Avoid sugar, junk, and processed food. Not just that, also limit your consumption of spicy foods.

4. Home Remedies

Ashwagandha, turmeric milk, green tea, flax seed oil and hot or cold compression are some of the home remedies that can naturally help you get rid of the wrist pain.
