The scorching summers are here to stay for quite some time. With temperatures touching 40 degree Celsius, summer diseases also become prominent. In such a scenario, it is important for you to maintain your immunity. And, also make sure that you are aware of the essential summer health facts and myths to not let the weather affect you!

Health Facts and Myths

1. Summer Myth: Skipping A Meal Makes Your Body Feel Lighter

Summer Health Facts: No matter what season of the year it is, skipping a meal does no good for the body. It will only aggravate your pitta dosha and the summer temperatures make the condition worse. So, having a balanced diet at regular times will keep your digestion in place and effectively get rid of toxins. This is why you must not skip your meals, but eat light and have cooling summer foods like cucumber and watermelon, along with summer drinks to stay hydrated.

2. Summer Myth: Icy Drinks Keep You Cool

Summer Health Facts: To maintain your summer health, stay away from anything icy! You need to be very careful of what you eat or drink during summers. The ultimate aim must be to stay hydrated, whereas ice just wrecks your digestion. But, something like coconut water will keep your system balanced.

3. Summer Myth: Lesser The Clothes, Better It Gets!

Summer Health Facts: For the sake of comfort and to avoid skin irritations, wearing fewer clothes is a common trend. However, this way you make yourself more susceptible to summer diseases and it also degenerates the skin due to UV exposure. If you are pitta predominant, it is important for you to keep yourself covered during summers. Otherwise, it can lead to not only dosha aggravation, but also suntan or sunburn, moles, and freckles.

4. Summer Myth: For Better Summer Health, Avoid Having Body Massage!

Summer Health Facts: Massaging your body with a cooling oil like that of coconut only keeps your skin nourished. Avoid a body massage with almond oil or olive oil as these are warming oils. And, make sure to bathe with room temperature water after the message. Also, to stay on the safer side, go for a massage only three times a week!

5. Summer Myth: It Is Okay To Sleep Late During Summers

Summer Health Facts: Summers are a good time for having late night family outings, parties with friends or corporate dinners. But remember, pitta escalates during summers and grows more prominent between 11 pm to 2 am. So, it is advisable to sleep by 10 pm and breeze through the pitta phase without developing any health issues.
