In Ayurveda, Pitta is the dosha dominated by fire. So, the Pitta skin type also reflects the qualities of this element. When there is balance in this dosha, such skin looks dewy and radiant. In case of imbalance, it becomes dry, red, and is prone to inflammation, rashes, acne, and irritation. But this can be easily taken care of with Ayurvedic remedies. Just follow these Pitta skin care tips and you should experience improvement!

Ayurvedic Pitta Skin Care Tips

1. Favour Cooling Foods.

One of the most important Pitta skin care tips is to have a diet rich in cooling foods, since this balances the dosha as well as enhances Pitta skin health. On one hand, favour foods like watermelon, ghee, lemon, cucumber, zucchini, milk, and bitter greens. On the other hand, avoid heaty and acidic foods like citrus fruits (except lime), fried items, chili, red meat, tomatoes, vinegar, processed sugar, dried ginger, black pepper, and fenugreek.

2. Drink Lemon Water Daily.

A very good practice of skin care for Pitta dosha is to simply drink a glass of warm lemon water every morning. This hydrates the body from within, and has wonderful effects on skin health. It supplies the body with vitamin C, improves liver function, supports detoxification, and aids smooth digestion – all of which improve Pitta skin. Remember to always used freshly squeezed lime.

3. Protect Yourself From The Sun.

High sensitivity to the Sun is among the most common Pitta skin care problems. So, limit direct exposure to the Sun’s rays since this will dehydrate your skin and cause issues like inflammation. Never step into the Sun without sunscreen. And in case of sunburn, go ahead and use these Ayurvedic remedies.

4. Moisturise Your Skin Well.

Next on the list of Pitta skin care tips is to moisturise your skin properly. First off, don’t shower with hot water since it drains the skin off its moisture. Second, apply moisturiser immediately after you finish showering. Apply aloe vera gel onto your skin when dry, and you can also drink its juice. Drink plenty of water so that your body is well hydrated. Take extra care during the winter months.

5. Practise Self-Massage With Oil.

Practise ‘abhyanga’ or self-massage with oils such as coconut oil and neem oil. Don’t heat the oil too much, lukewarm is good enough. This technique not only hydrates the skin, but also nourishes it, and can reduce dullness as well as inflammation. Apart from that, self-massage also reduces other skin damaging factors like excess stress, toxins in the body, and sleeping troubles.

6. Take Herbs.

Last on this list of Pitta skin tips is to take herbs that fight off inflammation easily, reduce acne, detoxify the body, and improve overall skin health. Some of them are:

  • Aloe vera
  • Turmeric
  • Neem
  • Brahmi
  • Amalaki
  • Triphala
  • Ashwagandha
  • Cardamom
  • Ginger
